Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Piping bag with a large star tip
  • Deep frying pan or pot
  • Tongs or slotted spoon
  • Paper towels

Ingredients

  • For the Churros:
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • For the Coating:
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • For Frying:
  • Vegetable oil enough for 2–3 inches in the pan

Instructions

  • Make the Churro Dough:
  • In a medium saucepan, combine water, sugar, butter, and salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring until the butter melts.
  • Add the Flour:
  • Remove from heat and add the flour all at once. Stir vigorously until the dough forms a ball and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
  • Incorporate Wet Ingredients:
  • Let the dough cool for 5 minutes. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth and fully combined.
  • Heat the Oil:
  • Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or pot to 375°F (190°C).
  • Pipe and Fry the Churros:
  • Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip. Pipe 4–5-inch strips of dough directly into the hot oil, cutting with scissors. Fry 3–4 churros at a time, cooking for about 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown.
  • Coat the Churros:
  • In a small bowl, mix the granulated sugar and cinnamon. Roll the warm churros in the mixture until fully coated.
  • Serve and Enjoy:
  • Serve your Cinnamon Churros warm with your favorite dipping sauce, such as chocolate or caramel.
