Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Water
  • 1/4 Cup Unsalted butter, cut into pieces
  • 1 Tbsp Granulated sugar
  • 1/4 Tsp Salt
  • 1 Cup All-purpose flour
  • 1 Large Egg
  • 1/2 Tsp Baking powder
  • 1/4 Tsp Baking soda
  • Cooking spray or melted butter (for greasing waffle iron)
  • 1/2 Cup Granulated sugar, for coating
  • 1 Tsp Ground cinnamon, for coating

Instructions

  • Make the Batter:
In a saucepan, heat water, butter, sugar, and salt over medium heat. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Reduce heat to low. Immediately add flour and stir vigorously until the dough pulls away from the sides and forms a ball. Remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes. Beat in the egg until fully incorporated.
  • Waffle-fy the Dough:
Whisk in baking powder and baking soda. The batter will be slightly thicker than pancake batter.
  • Preheat & Grease:
Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer's instructions. Lightly grease with cooking spray or melted butter.
  • Cook Waffles:
Ladle the batter onto the hot waffle iron, spreading slightly if needed. Close the lid and cook according to your waffle iron's instructions until golden brown and crispy.
  • Coat and Enjoy:
Remove the waffle carefully and immediately roll in the cinnamon-sugar mixture. Serve warm.

Notes

Serving Suggestions: Top with your favorite churro toppings like whipped cream, chocolate sauce, fruit compotes, or a scoop of ice cream.
Storage Guidance: Churro waffles are best enjoyed fresh. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature and reheated in a toaster oven for a day or two.
Recipe Notes:
  • Batter Consistency: If the batter is too thick, add a splash of milk or water to thin it slightly.
  • Cooking Time: Waffle iron temperatures vary. Adjust cooking time as needed for your ideal crispiness.
  • Don’t Overcrowd: Cook waffles one or two at a time depending on your waffle iron size.
